MADDEN 22

Berlin Bravesfor EA SPORTS

news February 28, 2022

We’re thrilled to announce an exclusive collaboration with EA Sports for Madden NFL 22. It’s a wild project that’s been in the works for close to a year and was released in-game on February 25. Off-screen, we designed a capsule collection to represent our values and the city of Berlin. It’s our way to show love to all the European players that are chasing their dreams.

We hope this partnership helps spread our love for football across the world, using fashion and gaming as a gateway for more young people to step onto the field.

About the capsule collection

The Capsule Collection reflects the history, diversity, and innovation of both the Berlin Braves and Madden NFL 22. In-game, you can choose it to trick out your avatar in The Yard or dress up your whole roster in Ultimate Team. There’s also an all-new Braves-themed field where you can take your talents to the turf in front of the German capital’s most recognizable landmark.

Berlin Braves founder Joey Elgersma with more on that below.

Hi Joey, what inspired the design for the Berlin Braves x EA SPORTS capsule collection?

Our designs are the complete opposite of Berlin’s colour palette. They evoke everything we do and stand for: vibrancy, diversity, love, and a whole lot of flash. Part of the inspiration comes from the iconic Brandenburg Gate, which you’ll see in The Yard. It’s a mixture of old vs. new Berlin. Our Berlin.

First and foremost, I would like to put the spotlight on my amazing creative team. My MVP is Luca Laurenti, from Rome. He’s responsible for all the sick graphics. We worked together on this project for nearly a year. Then we’ve got our talented stylist, Jan Michael Quammie, from New York. Her fashion consulting was invaluable and made it so much easier to make final decisions on the uniforms. Next, shoutout to James, aka Stain Shade, from London for all the last-minute tie-dye, bleaching, and screen prints. From Chicago, we’ve got Conrad Javier, who’s behind the super-fly illustrations. And last but not least, big up to Roberto Brundo for all his hard work on photography.

What does having Berlin Braves in Madden NFL 22 mean to Germany and beyond?

We truly hope it will inspire a lot of kids in Germany to take up sports. It doesn’t matter what you do or what sport you’re into. It’s not about being on a winning team or being the expert in your field – anyone can be part of the Berlin Braves and Madden NFL 22 family. You just have to do what you love and keep pushing forward. Don’t let anybody tell you differently. Eventually, people will start to pick up on what you’re doing. Even if they’re on the other side of the world.

Who and what inspired the Berlin Braves in these projects?

We’re always inspired by the youth, both locally and internationally. We strive to inspire young people to look at sports a bit differently and help them find that one thing that turns into a passion. Within our club, there is space for anyone to grow as an individual – no matter their skill level on the field. Winning is nice but it’s not the most important thing in life. Love is. Love and support for each other always win.

Tell us about the physical collection and when it will be available.

One of the important things for us was to bridge the gap between virtual and physical sports and find ways to inspire others. To translate our in-game designs into an actual wearable collection. So we created six limited edition pieces that are available in the game but also in real life. Check them out in our web store.

All profits from sales within the EU will be donated to the Voices of Children organization to help children affected by the war in Ukraine.

Any last words?

We are super thankful for this project with EA Sports and one person, in particular, Jason Nikkinen, who believed in us from day one. Thank you for making this happen. And big s/o to Blaine McConnell and Frank Di Pinto.
