The opening night of this year’s Berlin Braves Race Weekend marked a special new chapter. We launched the first edition of the 01 Mile Race at one of Berlin’s most striking and symbolic locations, Teufelsberg. A place where running culture meets history.
The concept was simple yet bold: one mile, all uphill, on a site layered with stories of Berlin’s past, from military grounds to Cold War intelligence, from rubble to rebirth. Few participants had ever set foot there before, and that sense of discovery was part of the magic, especially for the international guests who joined as runners and spectators.
What unfolded was more than a race. It was an experience that blurred the lines between performance and place, between history and the present moment. The climb became a metaphor for what running culture represents: rebellion, resilience, and the constant push to redefine where and how running can exist.
For everyone involved, Teufelsberg became a living reminder that running is not confined to tracks or streets. It is an attitude, a creative act, and a way of connecting with the world around us.
The 01 Mile Race will be remembered as one of those rare moments when sport, culture, and history intersect seamlessly. A powerful start to the Berlin Braves Race Weekend and a testament to what happens when a community dares to imagine something new.
